Java Programmer / Information Technologist I

Position Summary

The SPA IT Team is responsible for supporting MSU's Enterprise Research Administration application, Kuali Research, for Sponsored Programs Administration unit.

Reporting to SPA IT Manager, the application developer will primarily perform technical and analytical functions in the implementation of complex integrated system projects in the field of research administration:

  • Prepares technical specifications, analyzes business functions of integrated systems, designs and develops end-to-end business solutions in Enterprise Java Platform, resolves technical issues through debugging, research.
  • Participates as a fully functioning professional member of medium/complex project team.
  • The individual will participate in all phases of the project in the specified functionality area, including but not limited to requirement analysis, business process review, application design, development, integration, data migration, testing, documentation, and deployment.
  • The developer must adhere to the standards and procedures defined within the project such as using Eclipse IDE, Git version control, Oracle database, technical unit testing, and documenting solutions in JIRA. Perform additional tasks as assigned

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related information technology field, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Three to five years of related and progressively more responsible work experience in a software development team using one of PeopleCode, SQL, .Net, Java, Python, Javascript, or related programming languages
  • Experience working in a software development team in a higher education environment, specifically in student administration areas related to academic advising, student records, admissions, financial aid, or student accounts. Experience with PeopleCode, SQL.
