In addition to our educational mission, we also lead three key initiatives: the TYT Veterans AI Initiative, the TYT Silver Skills Initiative, and The Young Talons Child Sponsorship Program.

We are excited to invite students and recent graduates to join our dynamic team as a Digital Solutions Intern/Volunteer. This role is ideal for individuals pursuing degrees in computer science, information technology, web development, software engineering, graphic design, digital media, or related fields.

Role Overview: Digital Solutions Intern/Volunteer

As a Digital Solutions Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in a range of areas, including web development, UX/UI design, digital content creation, and online strategy. You will collaborate with our team to develop and enhance our digital platforms, ensuring they effectively support our mission to educate and empower the next generation of leaders.

Internship/Volunteer Details

This role is available as either an internship or volunteer opportunity, structured to offer 40 noncontiguous hours over 90 business days. The flexible schedule is designed to accommodate your academic commitments while providing you with valuable real-world experience. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to transition into full-time or part-time roles upon graduation, based on performance and passion.

Detailed Responsibilities

Web Design and Development:

  • Website Redesign: Assist in the redesign of our website to create a modern, user-friendly, and accessible platform that reflects the mission and values of The Huggins Foundation and its initiatives.
  • Front-End Development: Implement responsive design principles using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to ensure our site is accessible across all devices.
  • Back-End Development: Support the integration of databases, APIs, and server-side logic using technologies like PHP, Node.js, or Python.
  • Content Management: Work with our content team to integrate dynamic content into the website, ensuring easy updates and scalability using platforms like WordPress or custom CMS solutions.

User Experience (UX) and Interface Design:

  • UX Research: Conduct user experience research to understand the needs and behaviors of our audience, translating insights into actionable design improvements.
  • Prototyping and Wireframing: Create wireframes, prototypes, and mockups to visualize new design concepts and gather feedback from stakeholders.
  • User Testing: Organize and conduct user testing sessions to validate design choices, ensuring the website is intuitive and meets the needs of our users.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Analytics:

  • SEO Optimization: Implement SEO best practices to improve site visibility in search engines, ensuring that our content reaches a broader audience.
  • Analytics Integration: Set up and monitor web analytics tools like Google Analytics to track site performance, user behavior, and conversion rates, providing insights for continuous improvement.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with our marketing, content, and IT teams to ensure that the website aligns with overall organizational goals and branding guidelines.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate regularly with key stakeholders to gather requirements, present progress, and incorporate feedback into the development process.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of the development process, including code comments, design rationale, and user guides for future reference.

Security and Maintenance:

  • Website Security: Implement security measures to protect the website from vulnerabilities such as SQL injection, cross-site scripting (XSS), and unauthorized access.
  • Ongoing Maintenance: Provide ongoing support for website maintenance, including updates, bug fixes, and performance optimization to ensure the site remains functional and secure.

Essential Skills

  • Web Development: Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and at least one backend language (PHP, Node.js, Python).
  • UX/UI Design: Strong understanding of user-centered design principles, with experience in prototyping and user testing.
  • SEO and Analytics: Knowledge of SEO techniques and experience with web analytics tools to track and improve site performance.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to web development and user experience.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet deadlines.
