So many of us have had personal experience with the devastation diseases such as cancer and Parkinson’s bring to individuals, to families and to hope itself. Van Andel Institute (VAI), a nonprofit biomedical research and science education institute located in the heart of Grand Rapids, MI’s vibrant Medical Mile, has as its mission, to find what causes disease and to translate those discoveries into therapeutic solutions that conquer illness and enhance lives.
Responsibilities
The institute maintains a Linux-based computing environment with over 7000+ CPU cores, 100’s of GPU, and Petabytes of storage. This role will assist the Institute’s Scientific Computing team with supporting Linux as a tool for science. Some key responsibilities of this role include:
Work with the computing team to install, support, and troubleshoot Linux-based tools
Provide Linux help and advice to users who may be new to Linux
Work with senior administrators to keep the institute’s High-Performance Computing (HPC) and big data storage resources running optimally.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. This role may be right for you if you:
Have been using Linux in your personal and/or professional life for a while
Understand why Linux is awesome and the better than windows and mac
Want to take their Linux skills to the next level.
Want to advocate and help new users get the most from the institute’s Linux-based resources
Are comfortable dealing with scripts and code.
Have strong verbal and written communications skills.
Have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Are able to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities to successfully achieve objectives
Are able to contribute effectively to a team environment
