Volunteer Tutor

Description:

Educate. Radiate. Elevate. (E.R.E.) is actively seeking dedicated and skilled tutors to join our team. As a nonprofit organization operating in Illinois and Texas, our mission is to strengthen the educational achievement of underserved students in grades 6-12. We offer high-quality instruction to support students in academics, test preparation, and essential life skills. By becoming a tutor with us, you will play a vital role in minimizing educational disparities and providing stability for our youth and their families.

Requirements:

  • Location: Must live in Illinois or Texas.
  • Experience: At least 1 year of teaching or tutoring experience.
  • Education: Must have a college degree or be currently enrolled in college.
  • Training: Participate in online training, including:
    • 2-hour roundtable on "Teaching Metacognition, Executive Functions, and Interpersonal Skills"
    • 8-hour asynchronous course and 1-hour roundtable on "Culturally Responsive and Trauma-Informed Teaching"
    • 1.5-hour onboarding meeting

Tutors Need Experience in 3+ Subject Areas:

  • Elementary School: Math, English Language Arts (ELAR), Science, and/or Social Studies
  • Middle School: Math (through Algebra), ELAR, Life/Earth/Physical Sciences, History, and/or High School Placement Test Prep (ISEE/HSPT/SEHS/STAAR)
  • High School: Math (through Calculus), ELAR, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Foreign Language, AP & ACT/SAT Test Prep, and/or College Applications

Duties:

  • Commitment: Provide a minimum of 1.5 hours of tutoring per week for each 4-month term (Fall Term: 10/1 - 1/31, Spring Term: 2/1 - 5/31, Summer Term: 6/1 - 9/30).
  • Preparation: Spend approximately 30 minutes outside of each session to prepare and document lessons.
  • Communication: Clearly communicate expectations, plans, and progress with students and their families.
  • Documentation: Enter tutoring schedules and lesson notes in a timely manner.
  • Best Practices: Apply tutoring best practices in each lesson.
  • Advocacy: Promote E.R.E.’s mission and inspire interest in our programs.
