Refugee Services Intern
Responsibilities
- Assist with preparations for newly arrived refugee families including apartment inspections and set-up, preparation of clothing and household goods, cultural orientation, and community orientation
- Pick up families from the airport, as assigned by case manager
- Accompany and assist families with appointments including social security, Public Aid, medical, utility sign-up, ESL registration, clothing pick up, food pantry, and establishing bank accounts
- Assist families with setting up appointments and arranging transportation
- Assist families with maintaining payment of rent, utilities, and other bills such as travel loan, phone, or internet
- Visit refugees in their homes with the case manager or independently to assist with follow up tasks as requested and to get documents signed
- Conduct follow up with new referral clients and assist with new client intakes
- Facilitate LIHEAP, or other program, enrollments
- Conduct assessments with family such as Cultural Orientation assessments
- Help with the development of orientation materials, filing, and other office-based tasks
- Research and development of resources for clients, including housing
- Attend regular resettlement team and staff meetings
- Biweekly summary reports
- Required readings and reflective journal entries
- Assist with other IFS tasks as needed
- Assist other FCM team members when time allows
Qualifications
- Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
- Strong cross-cultural communication skills
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Flexibility and willingness to grow and be stretched
- Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills
- Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook; Access skills a plus
- Driver’s license and clean driving record required; access to a vehicle strongly preferred
- Consideration given to intern applicants with language abilities in one of the following: Arabic, Farsi, Burmese, Karen, Nepali, Russian, Spanish, Pashto

- Anywhere between 10-20 hours per week

- This internship is unpaid, but mileage on personal vehicle for position is reimbursed
- University credit is available with prior approval
