AmeriCorps Community Training (ACT) Overdose Rescue Trainer

ACT aims to reduce opioid-overdose deaths in Metro Detroit. Our members train people living in Oakland, Wayne, and Macomb counties on how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose emergency. We distribute Narcan, are involved in community health education, project management, and outreach to diverse populations in the tri-county area. ACT is a rewarding opportunity for anyone who wants to make a difference. We welcome candidates of all backgrounds, and we provide extensive training and professional development for incoming members

This is a 6-month, 20 hr/week paid service experience. As part of our program, you can expect to: gain hands-on health education experience, build skills for your future network with public health groups and organizations, serve on a diverse, energetic team, earn a living allowance of $5,850 and an education award of $1,956. 

ACT is a hybrid program. You should expect to complete tasks in both virtual and in-person settings, with the majority of your hours taking place in person. This means at least 8 hours served in-person each week, either at WSU Center for Urban Studies offices or in the community. Most service activities will take place within the hours of 10am and 3:30pm, M-Th. The priority deadline to apply is September 11, 2024. While priority will be given to applicants who apply by then, we will accept applications through October 9, 2024.
