Media & Public Relations Intern

Food & Water Watch is a national, nonprofit membership organization that mobilizes regular people to build political power to move bold and uncompromised solutions to the most pressing food, water, and climate problems of our time. FWW uses grassroots organizing, media outreach, public education, research, policy analysis, and litigation to protect people’s health, communities, and democracy from the growing destructive power of the most powerful economic interests. We all need safe food, clean water, and a livable climate.

Food & Water Watch is currently seeking a Media & Public Relations Intern for the Public Affairs Department of Food & Water Watch. 

The intern will report to the Director of Media and Public Relations and will work with other staff on the Public Affairs team. The intern will work to support the development of our digital asset management (DAM) system. Primary responsibilities will be working with the Senior Graphic Design Lead to prepare photos and videos for upload into our DAM. This is a part-time temporary position from approximately Sept 16 – November 1, 2024.

Applicants should be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and committed to the social and environmental justice mission of Food & Water Watch.

Compensation: Up to $25/Hourly for 10-15 hours weekly

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Use the process developed by the Senior Graphic Design Lead.
  2. Resize and/or crop, convert color space, and export multiple file formats for image files.
  3. Upload final prepared files to a shared location for review and/or direct uploading of files to a secure DAM system.

Office Location: While FWW has physical offices in Washington D.C., New York, NY, New Brunswick, NJ, and Ventura, CA, this position is approved for remote work if desired. All staff are working remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic.

QUALIFICATIONS:  This position requires someone who is organized and has attention to detail.        

Computer Skills: An individual should be able to work in a Mac-based computerized environment with internet access and have adequate knowledge of email, internet and spreadsheet software; in particular proficiency with Excel and OneDrive. Prior experience with basic image editing (using Preview, Photoshop, or other similar image editing software is preferred. A thorough understanding of file metadata uses and best practices is preferred, but interested and technologically savvy persons with a willingness to learn should also apply. Students studying library science, digital collection management, digital asset (media) management and/or digital content management are encouraged to apply.
