The Internship Program - May 2025 Start Date
The Whirlpool Engineering Rotational Leadership Development (WERLD) program is one of our most successful and longest running programs. WERLD is focused on developing a strong engineering foundation in order to prepare participants for the variety of career paths available within Whirlpool's Global Product Organization. Over a 10-12 week period, interns in this program work on critical projects focused on products and engineering processes in the different stages of product development - from research and development all the way to manufacturing.
Upon successful completion of the summer internship program, you may be considered for employment opportunities within the Full Time WERLD Program post-graduation.
Your day-to-day
Project assignments could be related to:
- Developing, testing, and implementing new appliance and system designs that satisfy consumer, trade partner and business requirements
- Designing, developing, reviewing and conducting coordination for test programs of components, small systems or materials to achieve targeted product performance, cost and quality requirements
- Applying robust design tools and a consumer-centered focus to innovative product designs
- Analyzing, evaluating, and documenting product testing and troubleshooting data
- Identifying, analyzing, and solving issues to improve product performance and quality
- Learning and applying LEAN techniques to applicable projects
- Collaborating with other specialists, business partners, suppliers, and customers
Minimum requirements
- Majoring in: Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering/Science or relevant engineering field
- Pursuing bachelors degree with plans to graduate before or by May 2026
- Current cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
- Must have indefinite US work authorization. Applicants who require visa sponsorship or work authorization now or in the future are not eligible for this program.

Preferred skills and experiences
- Cumulative GPA of 2.8/4.0 or higher
- Ability to apply engineering theory to practical problems and demonstrated technical ability through project work (internships, research, design projects, clubs)
- Demonstrated deep technical ability through classwork and project work
- Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts at a high level and in depth
- Actively involved in campus or community activities and organizations, preferably in leadership roles
- Demonstrated critical thinking ability and systems engineering mindset to solve challenging problems
- Ability to work with and lead teams
- “Own It” Attitude- self motivated to drive for differentiated results
- Displays influential leadership potential
