Monthly Salary: $4,206 per month 

 

A paid Summer Intern in the Strategic Sourcing Department allows students to delve into procurement and supply chain management within the transportation sector. Interns will engage in sourcing strategies, vendor management, negotiation, and cost-saving projects, gaining hands-on experience. Working alongside experienced professionals, interns will enhance their analytical and problem-solving abilities, contributing to strategic decision-making. This internship provides a unique opportunity to directly impact BNSF's procurement efficiency and effectiveness. Successful Interns may be hired as full-time Management Trainees upon graduation.

This is a full-time, hybrid position requiring a minimum of 40 hrs/wk, split between the office and remote work, with weekend or evening work as needed.

Travel is minimal, must have reliable transportation to and from work.

Relocation is required if located more than 50 miles from the location.

Training will start with a two-day orientation in Fort Worth, Texas, offering a company overview and networking with leaders. This will be followed by support of ongoing projects and practical training with the department.

Key responsibilities may include: 

Interact with internal customers and suppliers regarding required specifications pricing, availability, and delivery of ad hoc/non-catalog procurement requests.  

Perform necessary systematic corrective action on issues related to supplier purchase orders or contract non-compliance.  

Support service and material buyers with ad hoc reporting and special project assistance.  

Maintain contract management in the execution of accurate and timely agreements.  

Possess leadership, teamwork, clear communication, adaptability, and resilience to overcome obstacles and meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment. 

Daily work is conducted in an indoor office environment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States and will be at least eighteen (18) years old upon hire.
  • Does not require sponsorship to obtain, maintain, or extend authorization to work in the United States. (For example, H1-B Visa or STEM OPT)
  • Pursuing a Bachelors or Graduate degree in Finance, Economics, Supply Chain Management, Business, OR a similar degree program from an accredited university.
  • Have and will maintain at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA.
  • Have LESS THAN three (3) years of professional work experience, EXCLUDING internships, part-time jobs, or positions held while pursuing my undergraduate and/or graduate degree.
  • Have access to reliable transportation for the duration of the internship to and from my assigned BNSF location.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior intern experience or less than 3 years of work experience in Finance or Supply Chain Management.
  • Have or have held a leadership position in a campus, community, or extracurricular organization.
  • Pursuing a degree in Finance or Supply Chain Management.
