Commodity Merchandising Intern (Summer 2025)

Commodity Merchandisers at The Andersons, Inc. are an integral component to the ag supply chain. Our merchandising team consists of driven, entrepreneurial professionals committed to providing excellent service to our customers. Merchandisers have the responsibility of originating commodities and marketing the goods to drive positive financial outcomes. Individuals in these roles also develop knowledge in local, national, and global markets, risk management, and transportation and logistics, and much more.
To guide the learning and development of college students interested in pursuing a career in commodity merchandising, The Andersons has built a notable summer internship experience. Interns receive a broad and hands-on experience in all aspects of commodity merchandising, including but not limited to:
- Buying and selling of commodities
- Daily analysis of local, national, and global markets
- Transportation and logistics
- Price development
- Supply Chain Management
- Relationship Building with Customers
Our Commodity Merchandising Interns will be located in our Maumee, OH or Overland Park, KS trading offices based on business needs. Housing is provided.
Day to Day Responsibilities of Commodity Merchandising Interns include:
- Communicate effectively with The Andersons internal and external customers
- Obtain marketing knowledge and insight of local, national, and global cash grain and grain product marketing, trading, and flows
- Assist in evaluating changing crop and market conditions
- Support merchants manage customer relationships, contracts, logistics, data analytics, and other activities
- Develop merchandising skills to provide a base knowledge for future merchandising opportunities
For the Commodity Merchandising Intern Experience, we are looking for individuals who meet the following requirements:
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Business, Finance, Economics, or other related majors
- Current junior (or equivalent) preferred
- One year of relevant work experience or internships
- Fluent in English, knowledge of second language is a plus
- Demonstrate leadership ability and ability to influence others
- Self-starter who is highly motivated with an entrepreneurial mindset
- Able to work independently and in a team environment
- Experience in customer service and able to proactively identify and resolve issues
- Comfortable taking appropriate risks
- Excellent written and verbal skills and detail-oriented in the areas that require analysis
