Business Development Intern (Summer 2025)

We are currently seeking a Business Development Intern for Summer 2025. This position is remote with preference for students located in the Washington DC area.  

 

The Business Development team is seeking a motivated, self-starting student to support the Health Business Unit to obtain hands-on experience with the entire federal government contracting acquisition process. Business Development Intern will have the opportunity to oversee the full business development life cycle. Tasks may include market research assessment, opportunity identity and qualification, working with scientists, program managers and business development leaders to identify target opportunities to bid, developing marketing approaches, and drafting gate review material. Interns may also gain experience briefing senior leadership. The Business Development Intern will gain knowledge of established business development processes and best practices as well as develop an understanding of science-focused government agencies such as the Department of Health & Human Services, Defense Health Agency and Environmental Protection Agency. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop capabilities brief highlighting aspects of Battelle internal capabilities
  • Maintain Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database of opportunities and review for accuracy
  • Assists with compliance and tracking documentation
  • Submit requests for Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA) and Teaming Agreements
  • Support call plan development in partnership with BD professional
  • Use GovWin IQ and Bloomberg Government to research agency opportunities
  • Work with Marketing & Communications dept to further develop web and social media presence
  • Supports capture management activities with research analysis

Key Qualifications

  • Must be currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a science, medical or healthcare related field.
  • Must have at least two years of college experience.
  • Related work experience (paid or unpaid) is preferred.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to take on technical challenges.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, Teams & PowerPoint.
  • Must be available to work 40 hours/week.

  • Understanding of organizations, business development, and marketing.
  • Creative with an aptitude for technical understanding.
  • Confidence and professionalism in speaking with senior leadership members.
  • Broad health or science understanding.
