2025 Summer Program - Sophomore - Technology (TG)

The Sophomore Career Exploration Internship gives you the opportunity to gain valuable work experience at a unique institution. Through project-based work and professional development activities, you’ll get both an introduction to professional life and an understanding of the New York Fed’s consequential and dynamic work.  In addition to your daily responsibilities, you’ll gain personal and professional skills to help you prepare for the next steps in your education and career journeys. You’ll be part of a collaborative and inclusive cohort and be paired with a mentor who’s excited to support you. During your internship, you’ll also learn more about our Junior Summer Analyst program, which serves as a recruitment pipeline for the New York Fed’s entry-level hiring.

What we do:   

The Technology Group (TG) is responsible for the strategic planning and provisioning of automation services to the Bank. These include application development, data architecture, network, communications and data center infrastructure and operations, project management, technology vendor management, and overall information technology and information security. The Group also provides national information security, incident response, national remote access and enterprise search services for the Federal Reserve System.

 

Your role as a Summer Technology Group Intern:

Candidates will be responsible for technology work in any of the Technology Group’s areas, including but not limited to information security, data management, software development, or end user services for the Bank.

Responsibilities may include coding software, testing code, preparing and managing data, and/or running competitive analyses and research for the Bank’s technology teams.

Additional responsibilities may include analyzing current and new technology architecture designs as well as implementing and deploying applications across multiple environments.

 

What we are looking for:  

The Sophomore Career Exploration Internship Program is open to applicants who have completed their sophomore year at a 4-year college by the beginning of the internship. The program is extremely competitive, and size is limited.

As a sophomore intern in the Technology Track, you have a demonstrated interest in computer science, information systems, application development, business technology, or related discipline and a strong academic record. Specific technical skills may be required depending on area and project. Other general requirements include:

Must have an expected graduation date of Winter 2026 or Spring 2027

Working knowledge of MS Office Suite

Strong analytical and critical thinking skills demonstrated by the ability to assimilate new information, and manage multiple tasks

Basic programming skills in one or more areas: Java, JavaScript, SQL, Scala, Python, HTM/CSS

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written

Ability to grasp information quickly

Attention to detail

Ability to work productively in a high-performance team atmosphere and as an independent analyst

This is a paid internship. Please note, summer housing is not provided.

 

Salary Range: Your regular wages for the 8 weeks will be paid on a semi-monthly basis and will be calculated based on an annual salary of $65,600, less applicable taxes. We believe in transparency at the NY Fed. This salary range reflects a variety of skills and experiences candidates may bring to the job. We pay individuals along this range based on their unique backgrounds.
