ES&H teams are comprised of three distinct disciplines that support our ES&H Management System and processes at project sites and offices. These teams include environmental scientists, safety professionals, and industrial hygiene scientists. Collectively, they provide technical guidance and perform planning, risk assessment, inspections and monitoring, training, and data management.
Locations will vary based on project needs and may include offices, facilities, or construction sites located throughout the U.S.
Job Summary:
Safety Specialist Interns help develop and execute the safety component of an Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) program. This involves administrative and field tasks per established industry practices, procedures, and regulatory and Bechtel requirements. The position requires practical application of occupational safety and related disciplines for managing safety and health aspects of a project or facility.
Major Responsibilities:
- Assists in integrating safety and health requirements
- Interprets requirements and provides technical assistance to other project groups regarding risk assessment, plan preparation, and ES&H program execution.
- Identifies regulatory requirements and prepares documentation and reports.
- Provides technical guidance for safety studies, risk and hazard assessments, and other safety and health reviews.
- Assists in the development and implementation of the project Safety and Health Management Plan, associated plans and procedures, and training program.
- Helps develop and implement safety and health communication and awareness measures involving training presentations, flyers, posters, signage, and other communication and training media.
- Participates in emergency response and aids the investigation and resolution of safety-related incidents. Assists in identifying stakeholders and resolving their concerns.
- Provides safety input to other project groups, so that ES&H requirements are integrated within project planning, design, construction plans, procurement, and subcontracts.
- Participates in meetings, as required, with customers, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors to advise them of safety and health requirements.
- Conducts inspections and monitoring to help evaluate ES&H performance, identify corrective actions, and confirm compliance with contract, regulatory, project, and Bechtel requirements.
- Assists in tracking ES&H performance and trends and preparing reports.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree (or equivalent), or a Master of Science (MS) degree, in Occupational Safety or Safety Management from an accredited university or college.
- Ability to research and comprehend organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including technical writing abilities.
- Technical knowledge and experience related to occupational health and safety.
- Computer skills for preparing presentations, data management, and report preparation.
- Analytical skills related to sampling, monitoring, and recordkeeping.
- Valid driver’s license.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrated interest, training, and experience in applied sciences.
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 Management System standards.
- Adaptable and able to work outdoors in a field environment under various weather conditions.
- Ability to support multiple work shifts, as needed.
