Internship Description

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is an executive agency that oversees the U.S. wholesale natural gas and electricity markets. In addition to monitoring the activity within these markets, FERC analyzes proposals to build liquefied natural gas terminals and interstate natural gas pipelines, licenses hydropower projects, and addresses issues related to grid modernization and a smarter grid.  

 

This paid internship will be in the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s Office of External Affairs. The Office of External Affairs (OEA) is responsible for the public relations of the Commission. This responsibility is executed by providing informational and educational services to the Congress; Federal, state and local governments; the general public; consumer and public interest groups; trade associations; regulated industries; and the news media. As the liaison with foreign governments, this office is also responsible for providing assistance to and facilitating communications with international visitors.

Internship Responsibilities

Interns selected for this position will be responsible for any of the following duties:

 

  1. Assisting the Strategic Operations & Special Projects Division by monitoring the FOIA and CEII inboxes and ensuring that new requests are flagged for the team for response; maintaining an internal spreadsheet to track deadlines and actions on specific FOIA/CEII requests, and monitoring of the Inform FERC inbox and the distribution of pertinent information to the appropriate Program Offices.
  2. Assisting the State, International, and Tribal Affairs Division in outreach efforts and technical-conference preparation.
  3. Assisting the Media Relations Division with preparing the daily news clips, drafting content for the Commission’s internal newsletter, and assisting with preparation of social media posts and monitoring of social media sites.
  4. Assisting the Congressional Affairs Division with Congressional inquiries, researching current legislative and policy issues, and monitoring Committee hearings and writing summary briefs.
