2025 University Graduate (U.S.) - Control Systems Engineering Intern

Bechtel’s internship program was created to cultivate real-life industry interest based on hands-on experience.  Many new university graduate hires began their careers at Bechtel as a summer intern.  Locations will vary based on project needs and may include Houston, TX, Reston, VA, or various project sites.

Control Systems Engineering interns work in multi-disciplinary teams and provide support to aspects of measurement instrumentation and automated digital system process control.  This includes performing the analysis, design, specifications, and startup support for all aspects of measurement instrumentation and automated digital system process control.

Control Systems Engineering interns may be responsible for:

  • Assisting with the development of basic discipline system calculations and designs such as short circuit and load-flow single line and 3-line drawings, schematics, transformer and cable sizing, and specifications for equipment where deviations from standard documentation is required.
  • Producing basic and higher-tier drawings and documentation in accordance with established conceptual design and scope.
  • Properly interpreting and applying codes and standards and customer design requirements for the preparation of electrical design documents, specifications, and system descriptions related to design tasks.

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a four-year Bachelor of Science degree program in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering at an accredited college or university.
  • Completed at least one year of undergraduate studies in one of the above fields.
  • Possess the eligibility to work and remain in the US without visa sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • Ability and willingness to relocate and/or travel to domestic and/or international project jobsites.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Master of Science degree program in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering at an accredited college or university.
  • Completed relevant coursework with a strong GPA.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
