Industrial Design Intern (Sept - Dec 2024)

Summary:

We’re looking for 2 talented Industrial Designer interns to join our Design team at iRobot. Our group is responsible for defining the physical and digital experiences of iRobot. The Design Interns will work with us across ID, UI, UX and design researchers to assist our team in product design and development.

This is a full-time internship (40 hrs; M-F) at a hybrid capacity in our Bedford, MA office from September to December. Students must be within a commutable distance to the Massachusetts office and available to come onsite 3x week.

 

What You Will Do: 

This role will support the ID team to lead the design effort on projects from early concept through production including: design and consumer research; competitive marketplace analysis; and industrial design concept exploration, refinement, communication, & documentation.

The design Interns are expected to work cross functionally with other industrial designers, UX/UI designers, engineers, researchers and visual designers to create tangible design solutions, and inform prototype development.   • Strong interest in understanding of form, function, visual composition, and conceptual integrity.
  • High proficiency in a 3D program and rendering program – SolidWorks & Keyshot or similar are required.
  • High proficiency in the use of Adobe Creative Suite is required.
  • The ability to communicate design concepts through hand sketches, mock-ups
  • Eye for clean, visually impactful designs that are current and fresh.
  • A great sensitivity to color, aesthetics, and materiality, and the ability to translate trends into compelling products.
  • The ability to quickly build strong relationships within and across organizations.

 

To Be Successful You Will Have: 

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in industrial design, industrial engineering, product design, or related field.
  • Must be within a commutable distance to our Bedford, MA office
  • Comfortability with Adobe suite
  • Must have a virtual portfolio
  • You are self-driven but collaborate well within the team
  • The ability to take feedback with open minded and do the same thing to people
  • You are ambitious and focused, but you don’t forget to have fun
