NDTL Research Internship

Program Overview

The NDTL Research Internship offers undergraduate students the chance to engage in advanced theoretical and experimental research alongside faculty mentors and graduate students during the 2025 summer. The program pairs students with faculty whose expertise aligns with their research interests, helping them develop essential skills for advanced studies and future careers. Students will work on understanding and investigating complex phenomena, emphasizing precise measurement techniques and scientific inquiry. At the end of the internship, they will present their research findings and receive constructive feedback, further enhancing their academic and research capabilities.

Program Activities

  • The program consists of 10 weeks of full-time research during the 2025 summer
  • Weekly Lunch and Learns
  • Professional development workshops and social events
  • Required to present at the Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium
  • Opportunity to present in the 3MT Competition (3 Minute Thesis)
  • Required to give an End of Summer Presentation to NDTL staff
  • Opportunity to give an End of Summer Presentation to industry partners
  • Access to campus facilities such as University Health Service, RecSports, Smith Center, Duncan Student Center, and Hesburgh Library

Eligibility

To be eligible for the NDTL Engineering Internship, applicants must be enrolled as undergraduates in an engineering degree program at a university or college by the start of the summer 2025 term. Aerospace and/or mechanical engineering majors are preferred. Applicants must be rising juniors or seniors and have demonstrated interest in pursuing graduate school.

Students belonging to groups traditionally underrepresented in engineering (women, members of underrepresented minorities, and those with disabilities) are strongly urged to apply.
