Manufacturing Operations/Continuous Improvement Intern
Scot Forge Company is looking to hire an Operations/Continuous Improvement Intern for the Summer of 2024 at the corporate facility in Spring Grove, IL. An operations/continuous improvement internship at Scot Forge will provide a variety of experiences and exposure to the manufacturing management and continuous improvement profession. This intern will be supporting the operations team through their daily tasks and projects.

Anticipated Projects include:
- Collaborating with the Plant Management and Supervisors on identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives throughout the manufacturing floor.
- Participate in and support shop floor projects focused on enhancing productivity, reducing waste, and optimizing processes.
- Join daily walks and meetings to observe operations and help identify areas for improvement.
- Assist in driving 5S activities, including organizing and participating in 5S events within the shop.
- Support Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Daily Collaboration Meeting (DCM) activities to help maintain equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
- Help track and act on identified action items to support operational goals.
- Assist in conducting root cause analysis to identify and resolve issues affecting quality and productivity.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data to contribute to informed decision-making and improvement actions.
- Support compliance with safety regulations and standards while learning about process improvement.
Qualifications:
Required Skills
- Minimum Sophomore standing in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or related field.
- Independent worker with strong self-management and problem-solving skills, who can demonstrate learning agility in Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing, and Process Optimization initiatives.
- Knowledge of SolidWorks or other CAD/CAM software.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques, including 5S and Kaizen, preferred.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Skills
- Certifications in Lean Manufacturing Techniques, Project Management, Root Cause Analysis, and/or Safety Compliance
- Effective collaborator with strong communication skills
- Knowledge of a wide variety of manufacturing processes.
- Previous exposure to CNC machining or machinery
- Geometrical Tolerance specification/application knowledge.
Additional Requirements
- Must be authorized to work anywhere in the U.S. without sponsorship
- Must be able to pass a 90 day head hair drug test today.
