C++ Software Engineering Intern

*This is a paid internship

Role Summary:

We’re looking for a C++ Software Engineering Intern for the summer of 2025 who is interested in working on challenging problems in our forward-looking mobility, vehicle, and sensing projects. We develop software for distributed systems; monitoring and control applications; embedded and real-time systems; media handling and sensor processing; and user interfaces, middleware, and backends. Working within a team of experienced engineers, you’ll be directly involved in the design, implementation, testing, and documentation of software systems that solve complex problems related to advanced vehicle features and supporting tools.

Location:

We are located in Saline, Michigan. This position is in-person to encourage a culture of collaboration and mentorship.

What You’ll Do:

 

  • Develop, deploy, and support software over a range of advanced vehicle, robotics, and R&D applications
  • Contribute to multiple stages of the software development lifecycle and cultivate skills aligned with software development best practices
  • Tackle the challenges of learning, integrating, and leveraging a range of software tools and technologies, including in-house libraries
  • Participate in design and code reviews, release management, and documentation development
  • Develop unit and system-level test plans, automate testing, and support issue tracking


What You’ll Bring:

 

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program in computer science, computer engineering, or a related discipline
  • Solid C++ programming skills, and a readiness to acquire new skills in other programming languages
  • Prowess working with Linux and Windows platforms
  • Experience in networking and socket programming
  • Understanding of when you need help/feedback and a respect for the importance of peer critique and iterative design during development
  • Enthusiasm for jumping into new tools/technologies and applying your skills broadly to a variety of projects and types of software development


Bonus Points For:

 

  • Conceptual understanding of concurrency and an interest in growing practical experience in the topic
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills
  • Familiarity with source control and other aspects of developing software as a team
  • Hobby, school, or professional experience in any of the following areas:
    • Data structures and algorithms
    • Relational databases such as MySQL
    • User interfaces
    • Data analysis and visualization
    • Digital signal processing
