Position Overview

Our paid summer internship program provides a rich and rewarding hands-on learning experience and the opportunity to make a contribution to our organization. Our interns work in their course of study under close direction of an experienced supervisor/manager to learn about the bidding, estimating, and project management of heavy civil construction projects from driveways and site packages to federal infrastructure projects.

  • Duration: This is a temporary summer internship. Official start and end dates flexible based on student's availability.
  • Locations Available: Eugene, OR | Yakima, WA | Richland, WA | Spokane, WA | Rathdrum, ID | Helena, MT | Butte, MT
  • Application Process: Applications will be accepted until 11/30/2024
  • Wage: $19 - $26 /hr DOE w/ potential for overtime

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Coordinate with agencies and traffic control subcontractors
  • Assist in preparation and setup of job site work
  • Coordinate work with subcontractors, superintendents
  • Assist with generating change orders
  • Assist in tracking daily subcontract and prime contract quantities
  • Participate in production meetings
  • Provide ongoing project supervision
  • Attend construction meetings with owners, utilities, and subcontractors
  • Perform grade checks
  • Assist with job quantity measurements
  • Assist with final billing quantity measurement
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the jobsite
  • Learn Estimating and Bid Tracking Software
  • Learn to read specifications and plans
  • Assist with reviewing and analyzing data relative to a project, incorporating various productions and costs appropriate in preparation of a bid
  • Complete material and quantity takeoffs
  • Perform various tests on aggregate production, asphalt mix, and ready-mix concrete: gradation, moisture, oil content, density, and strength
  • Material sampling: plant and field
  • Layout, fabrication, assembly

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must be entering their Sophomore, Junior or Senior year and currently enrolled in a Construction Management, Construction Engineering Technologies, Civil Engineering, or closely related program of study.
  • Must be available to work approximately 40 - 50 hours per week
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workloads in a fast-paced environment.
  • A valid driver’s license, current authorization to work in the United States, and pass pre-employment controlled-substance testing.

 

Work Requirements:

  • This position has been identified by the employer as safety sensitive and will be subject to an employer-required pre-employment drug screening that includes testing for nonpsychoactive cannabis metabolites.
