The Hartford’s Technology, Data, Analytics and Cyber organization is seeking interns who are looking to build a career in Software Engineering. In this role, interns will gain exposure to Software Engineering technologies and best practices, while providing development support on The Hartford’s applications. Interns will have the opportunity to participate in immersive meaningful work, mentorship and coaching, and training with a goal of building skillsets in alignment to the entire software development lifecycle process.
This role is a hybrid position located in Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC. Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include:
- Gain mentorship, coaching, and self-directed training relative to software engineering and Hartford best practices.
- Partner with various parts of the organization to build a working knowledge of the organization, business, processes, and its customers.
- Gain exposure to development frameworks and databases that support our organization's applications.
- Work collaboratively with the developers, product owners, and business customers to identify the business requirements.
- With guidance, research and evaluate solutions to meet business requirements that conform to The Hartford’s coding standards.
- With guidance, help create verification methods and procedures and participate in systems testing.
- Debug and troubleshoot defects.
- With guidance, develop technical documentation for various project deliverables and phases.
- Solve a range of core business and technical challenges.
- Work is guided by more senior members of the team.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate students expecting to graduate in May 2026 with a bachelor’s degree and a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Desired majors include, but are not limited to: Computer Science, Engineering, IT, Management Information Systems.
- Provide evidence of programming knowledge, including:
- Computing fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, object-oriented and/or functional programming
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g. Java, Python, C#, JavaScript, or C/C++)
- Relational database management systems and SQL
- Fundamental software engineering
- Exceptional candidates may also provide evidence of the following via academic work, internship or side projects:
- Front-end web development
- Back-end development
- Cloud computing, such as AWS or Azure
- Team project experience
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
