Corporate Cyber Security Intern (CMMC)

Your education is just the beginning – you’ll become an active member of our Corporate Information Security team, reporting to the CMMC Sr. Operations Manager, and located in Pittsburgh, PA. During our 12-week internship program, you’ll tackle and learn regulatory requirements for cybersecurity, developing policies; standards; and procedures, cybersecurity frameworks, compliance, governance processes and practices, risk management principles and work alongside our industry changemakers.

The Corporate Cybersecurity Intern will work closely with the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Operations team to support and review compliance and regulatory requirements.

Intern Impact Project: Cybersecurity Governance, Framework and Policy 

 

The Corporate Cybersecurity Intern will pair with the CMMC Operations Team for this summer project. This role will assist with the research, development, update and cross map various regulations (U.S. Domestic and International) and frameworks applicable to Howmet. The goal is to strengthen our security posture by developing and implementing a robust and scalable governance and policy structure. The Corporate Cybersecurity Intern will work closely with Policies, Standards, Procedures and other Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) artifacts and processes. We are hoping for our intern to become comfortable with our security governance and learn about how to handle compliance requirements for CMMC and other regulatory bodies.

 

Furthermore, the Corporate Cybersecurity Intern will partner with the Howmet Productivity Team to explore and review automation opportunities. The intern will be responsible for coordinating and facilitating discussions regarding automation, explore opportunities to streamline the process and writing detailed reports on the outcomes. This project will allow for the Corporate Cybersecurity Intern to learn the day-to-day operations of a cybersecurity analyst in the Governance and Policy arena.

 

A Day in the Life in the Howmet Corporate Information Security Team…     

In addition to your impact project work, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Learn the Governance, Policy, Standards and Regulatory Compliance aspects of Cybersecurity;
  • Explore Cybersecurity requirements from an International perspective;
  • Research:
    • Processes to analyze and cross map various Cybersecurity Frameworks;
    • Processes to develop relationships among documents in different cybersecurity domains.
  • Learn methodical way to develop project schedules;
  • Support maintenance of the company’s Data Safeguarding requirements and practices based on Data Types;
  • Learn the industry standards, procedures, and technologies;
  • Interact with the other members of the Howmet Corporate Information Security team and learn the roles/responsibilities of all the team members;
  • Work closely with the Environment, Health and Safety as well as Compliance team to review current testing methods and opportunities for improvement/update for testing;
  • Use of Microsoft standard productivity platform applications for daily activities and interactions.

Your Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s degree program with a major in an accredited bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or cybersecurity with an expected graduation date in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026;
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or equivalent;
  • At least 1 Cybersecurity and/or Compliance course completed;
  • Experience with standard Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Involved with at least 1 extracurricular activity (inclusive of campus organizations, sports, or volunteerism);
  • Interns must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position;
  • Passion for atleast one (or more) of the domains of cybersecurity.

 

Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Proven ability to manage projects and working together with a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • At least 1 Legal and/or Risk Management course completed.
  • Experience with add-on Microsoft Office product (Project, Visio).
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Previous work or internship experience demonstrating project coordinaton skills.
  • Leadership skills gained through previous work, club, school, or internship experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products
  • Passion for the Security and Risk Management domain or Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) practices of cybersecurity.

Compensation for this internship opportunity ranges between $20- $22 per hour. (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors such as education, experience, skillset, and/or location).

A relocation stipend in the amount of $3,000 will be provided to students located 50+ miles from the physical location of the internship.
