Intern - Applications (IT) (Web Development)

Become a part of our diverse culture of learning, development, and mentorship as an Intern – Corporate Information Technology (IT) Applications in Summer 2025. 

Your education is just the beginning – you’ll become an active member of our Corporate Information Technology (IT) team, reporting to Nathan Crawford, Manager, Web Developer, Corporate Applications, and located in Pittsburgh, PA. During our 12-week internship program, you’ll be developing, debugging, and creating/updating technical documentation for the Dot Com Team supported websites, Howmet.com, Alcoawheels.com, & Howmetaerospacefoundation.org.

The Intern – Corporate Information Technology (IT) Applications will:

  • Assist in the development, testing, and debugging requests submitted to the Dot Com Team
  • Collaborate with team senior developer on various development and troubleshooting efforts
  • Contribute to the improvement of existing software and the creation of new features/functionalities.
  • Assist in the technical writing process and inventory management of IT assets, AVA effort, etc.

Intern Impact Projects: Custom development – Plugin, Gutenberg Block/TBD

  • IT related projects that drive business value for Howmet  
  • Participate in the development, implementation and deployment of new systems, new information technologies, and information solutions
  • Support and enhance existing systems and information technologies
  • Learn the location & company’s standards, procedures, and technologies
  • Consult and interact with Howmet’s global business customers and company user groups to gather requirements and to solicit feedback on the success of delivered products
  • Analysis, design, system development, and life-cycle methodologies
  • Use of Microsoft standard productivity platform applications for daily activities and interactions
  • Translate customer business requirements into technical solutions identifying key deliverables
  • Follow departmental processes procedures and produced required documentation
  • Work independently, directly with customers, as well as work group

Your Education, Skills, and Experience: 

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science, with an expected graduation date of Fall 2025 or Spring 2026.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Involved with at least 1 extracurricular activity
  • Interns must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. 

Preferred Educations, Skills, and Experience: 

  • Previous internship in Information Technology with a global employer
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, WordPress, GitHub
  • Demonstrated leadership skills gained through prior internship or work experience
  • Experience in problem-solving situations and the desire to create innovative solutions
  • Basic understanding of, or experience with, any kind of coding or scripting language (e.g. SQL, JavaScript, JSON, PHP)
  • Knowledge of principles surrounding web-based / cloud technology and user interfaces

Compensation for this internship opportunity ranges between $20- $22 per hour. (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors such as education, experience, skillset, and/or location).

A relocation stipend in the amount of $3,000 will be provided to students located 50+ miles from the physical location of the internship.
