What this Department does:
The Systems Engineering group is responsible for maintaining and utilizing hydraulic simulation models to determine the capabilities (capacities) of our natural gas transportation pipelines which includes six different assets. This group also collaborates closely with other departments within Tallgrass such as Commercial, Marketing, Gas Control, Field Operations, Regulatory/Legal, Measurement, and others in the design of new potential projects, whether it be a new facility request or an expansion of an existing facility. Systems Engineering can be considered the subject matter experts for the operations and processes of our natural gas facilities.
Responsibilities
What you will do:
You will work side by side with experienced professionals as contributing members of diverse work teams who bring vision and opportunity to the forefront. As a Tallgrass Intern, you will partner with various departments in support of multiple projects on existing assets and operations, as well as the exploration and development of new avenues and opportunities. The internship is intended to help you develop your work skills and knowledge while providing a link between your educational goals and career objectives.
You can expect to:
- Contract approvals.
- Capacity Management Dashboard validation.
- Capacity updates and change controls.
- Complete basic IRF SOW requests.
- Field visit(s).
- REX gradients
- Complete design capacity models for each pipe.
- Review and help validate updated TIGT model.
- Assist/shadow RTTM model work.
- Perform SS and transient analysis.
- Perform hydraulic modeling work for CO2 pipeline.
What you will learn:
- Hydraulic simulation modeling within the Nextgen Simulation platform (Gregg Engineering product).
- Specific operations related to Tallgrass’ six different natural gas transportation assets.
- Pipeline design (routing, diameter selection, HP sizing, determining process conditions for worst case design possibilities).
- Collaboration with non-engineering groups.
- Scope of work and high-level estimation documentation.
- Capacity management and interaction within the QPTM environment.
Qualifications
What you will bring:
Education:
Student actively enrolled in an approved Bachelor’s degree program (Mechanical, Chemical, Petroleum) with expected graduation date of December 2024 through December 2025
Experience/Specific Knowledge:
- Proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Passion for innovation and problem-solving, as well as a continuous drive to improve processes.
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software applications and platforms.
- Strong communication skills both with engineer and non-engineering minded professionals.

What else you need to know:
Our internships are temporary full-time positions, in-person/remote hybrid at our Lakewood, CO office. We will host our Summer 2025 interns from May-August for 10 weeks.
Compensation And Other Benefits
- Pay Range $26.65-$30.69 USD Hourly
- You may be eligible for a stipend to subsidize housing costs
- The final pay for this role will depend on a variety of factors, including a specific candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, and working location. The total compensation package for this role may also include overtime pay, paid time off, a housing stipend, and more.
