Global Child Health Undergraduate Fellow
Overview
Are you interested in traveling to an African country for an exciting research study on children's health? Do you love conducting interviews and writing on challenging health problems? Are you interested in learning about a different culture? Are you interested in boosting your leadership skills while pursuing research? Then, Become a Global Child Health Undergraduate Fellow!
Two undergraduate students in the School of Health Sciences are being recruited for an exciting research project. Fellows will support the research faculty to identify a package of interventions that simultaneously address child, family, and social factors that lead to poor growth and development in preterm babies.
Deliverables and Outputs: Together with the faculty supervisor,
- Create individualized key research competencies with associated activities and outputs and present a progress report on competencies at the end of each quarter
- Participate in leadership, research, and data analysis training (2 hours weekly in Fall Quarter 2024 and Winter Quarter 2025) and meetings with the faculty supervisor and research team
- Travel to Ghana in the summer of 2025 to be involved in qualitative data collection
- Publish one paper based on the results of the study under the supervision of faculty
Benefits
- The student will have the opportunity to spend one month in Ghana to be part of the study's data collection.
- The fellowship is funded by a grant from the US National Institutes of Health. It will offer tuition support and a stipend for two years and, subject to satisfactory progress, cover all costs related to travel to Ghana.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants should ideally be sophomores in the School of Health Sciences
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or above
- Be willing to travel to Ghana in the summer
