Internship: Grant Writer

Position: Grant Writing Internship

Reports to: Grants Manager

Status: Part-time

Compensation: Intern position, no monetary compensation

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Please join our Development Team! Learn about grants from someone who loves grants! HAVEN seeks a Grant Intern enthusiastic about the grant writing and administration process. In partnership with the Grants Manager, the Grant Intern will learn to conduct research for goodness of fit, identify potential opportunities, create and assemble grant requests and other documents as requested by the Grants Manager, and work with program staff as necessary to produce high-quality reports and presentations. The intern will work with a small but committed team of development professionals and will have the opportunity to learn about not only the grants process, but the structure and nature of programming supporting survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in learning about how nonprofit agencies function at the operational level.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Demonstrate commitment to HAVEN’s mission and values of Compassion, Excellence, Integrity & Trust, Empowerment and Inclusiveness.
  • Participate in regular Grants Committee Meetings (typically conducted via Teams) with Grants Manager, President & CEO, Director of Development, Director of Quality Assurance of Administration, and Senior Accountant. Attend other strategy meetings as necessary.
  • Conduct funding research online and through grant databases, identifying potential funders that align with HAVEN’s short and long-term development goals.
  • Work with leadership staff to identify programming gaps and conduct SWOT or other analyses as needed to gain a more intimate understanding of agency programming needs
  • Communicate the agency’s mission and programs to potential funders.
  • Where necessary, conduct the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to corporate and private foundation funding sources.
  • Ensure program and project budgets reflect the grant’s written narrative
  • Attend weekly supervisions via Teams; receive and incorporate regular feedback from the Grants Manager
  • Manage supplemental material required for proposals.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with related policies.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. At least two years’ experience writing extensively in a professional or academic setting.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of intimate partner violence and sexual assault. 
  3. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  4. Experience working in deadline-driven environments.
  5. Math skills sufficient for interpreting grant budgets.
  6. A successful track record in setting priorities, information delivery, and time management.

8. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, etc.

9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
