The Media Line’s Press and Policy Program offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity for students and alumni to globalize their academic experience by connecting with a prominent news bureau in one of the world’s most complex regions—the Middle East. Under the guidance of veteran journalists, you will explore the fields of journalism and public policy, earning academic credits or fulfilling independent study requirements while gaining invaluable real-world experience.
About the Program
The Press and Policy Program is designed to train the next generation of journalists and policymakers by offering:
- In-depth Knowledge of Middle Eastern affairs and international policy through a 3-month credit-bearing, full time program in our bureau in Jerusalem.
- Practical Skills in journalism, from reporting and writing to fact-checking and editorial practices.
- Firsthand Exposure to ongoing news events and key global issues, focusing on Israel, the Palestinians, and other nations in the region.
- Write several stories per week based on an agreed work plan with their supervisors.
- Scholarships are available to cover flights and living expenses, subject to review.
You will work closely with The Media Line, an American news agency specializing in the Middle East, which reaches 80 million people daily through its syndication with major news outlets.
The program’s graduates have gone on to secure leadership roles at prominent news organizations, including CBS, Bloomberg, Univision, and Reuters. This experience will empower you to pursue careers in journalism, policy-making, and other key sectors where an in-depth understanding of global issues is essential.
Responsibilities
- Research and write articles related to the Middle East’s local-global issues.
- Work with a team of seasoned journalists and editors to ensure accurate, balanced, and nuanced reporting.
- Collaborate with others from disciplines such as journalism, public policy, international relations, and political science to produce high-quality work.
- Train in multimedia disciplines, including video production, podcasting, and digital journalism techniques to enhance storytelling.
- Publish articles on themedialine.org based on merit, with the opportunity to earn bylines in external media outlets.
Qualifications
- Enrolled in or an alumni of an academic program in journalism, political science, public policy, international relations, or related fields.
- Demonstrated interest in Middle Eastern affairs, journalism, or public policy.
- Strong writing, research, and communication skills, with audio/video proficiency and additional languages a plus.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Social media skills preferred, with experience managing and producing content across platforms.
