Engineering Intern

Scope of Responsibility

Join as an Engineering Intern for the summer of 2025 where you'll apply your design skills to support product development in our plastic molding facility. You'll contribute to product changes, quotations, and designs while tackling diverse engineering challenges. This role offers hands-on experience in product engineering and the opportunity to work on complex, impactful projects.

Location: West Plant (5055 36th St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512

Shift: Days

Responsibilities

Day to Day - Support new product development for injection molded parts. Create drawings and layouts for new products from customer requests. Provides support for existing model and drawing changes. Assists in the design and development of products, components, and assemblies. Ensure that part data and drawings are up to date and accurately stored

Plant Collaboration and Team Work - Work with cross-functional teams to build relationships and new process capability implementation

Project and Continuous Improvement – Assist in appropriate documentation completion. Provide assistance with quotation activities. Conduct product testing and prototyping activities. Support continuous improvement and efficiency efforts. Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives. Understand the manufacturing environment and how to collaborate with different stakeholders to solve problems. Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives

Your Team – you will be joining a team of Engineer Specialists across 5 manufacturing plants who range from early career professionals to seasoned experts of 30 plus years. Your team will be located in both corporate and manufacturing plant environments to obtain best results

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled and pursuing a four-year Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering major including (but not limited to) Mechanical, Product Design and Manufacturing Engineer programs
  • Introductory knowledge of CAD software
  • Experience with manufacturing and engineering design process
  • Sophomore, Junior or Senior status
  • A willingness to learn

Preferred

  • Prior internship/work experience in a manufacturing setting
  • Machine shop qualifications – welding, endmills and lathes
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Have an interest in plastics, using data to solve problems, improve processes or work in manufacturing setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Must be able to work exceptionally well independently and with minimal supervision
