Individual Giving Intern - Spring 2025

Overview:

This intern will focus on developing strategies to engage multiple generations in philanthropy, with an emphasis on youth, young families, and individuals aged 55+. Through research and creative strategy, the intern will help design programs that inspire long-term philanthropic involvement across these diverse age groups. This role provides hands-on experience in nonprofit administration and development.

The intern will provide a variety of administrative support to colleagues within the Individual Giving team in the development department and support the Museum’s individual annual fund renewal program.

Internship Duties:

  • The intern will support the Annual Fund team on two key youth philanthropy initiatives as part of our Second Century Vision campaign.
    • The intern will collaborate on developing the organization’s first-ever crowdfunding campaign, focused on raising awareness and funds for a specific project within the Second Century Vision. This will involve creating communications and shaping the rollout strategy.
    • The intern will assist the Individual Giving Officer with the Roll-A-Coin project, a nostalgic childhood favorite being used to promote youth philanthropy. The intern will help manage and promote this initiative, encouraging youth participation and understanding in charitable giving.
  • The intern will help develop strategies and draft communications to help maintain donor membership levels as we implement a new tiered donor membership structure. Tasks will include analyzing membership data, reporting on trends and engagement metrics, creating promotional materials, and assisting in the planning of donor member stewardship events.
  • The intern will assist in developing planned giving materials and contribute to strategies for strengthening the program, including drafting donor communications, researching best practices, identifying opportunities to engage potential legacy donors, and supporting the planning of outreach events to promote planned giving initiatives.
  • Complete data entry (when necessary) using the Museum’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.

Internship Requirements:

  • Minimum Sophomore standing - pursuing a degree in nonprofit management, philanthropic studies, communications, human services, or a related area of study.
  • Strong Written Communication: Crafting clear and engaging communications for various audiences.
  • Research and Analytic Skills: Proficiency in gathering and analyzing data, both qualitative and quantitative, and the ability to identify trends and inform decision-making regarding giving strategies and philanthropic best practices.
  • Project Management: Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Creativity and Innovative Thinking: Develop engaging materials and strategies.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong relationship-building and communication abilities to engage effectively.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite.

ADA REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be able to perceive space, to read documents, and to view a computer monitor.
  2. Must be able to lift objects and up to 30 pounds of weight, sit, stand, or kneel. Agility and dexterity are required for extensive navigation of the museum facility.
