2025 IT Internal Audit Internship

Solving complex issues in the financial industry requires a team of remarkable individuals who dream big and achieve goals with teamwork, integrity, and excellence. We hire bright self-starters, provide them the tools to succeed, and give them the freedom to excel.

Start your career at Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH) and learn firsthand about our services, culture, and the financial services industry – while growing personally and professionally. We value our internship programs as they help us identify our future hires and leaders.

The IT Internal Audit group provides an independent assessment function over BBH’s activities to ensure that systemic infrastructure, cybersecurity, and application controls are adequate and continue to be effective in mitigating key business risks impacting the Firm (The Internal Audit Department reports directly to the Firm’s Audit Committee).

Open communication between Internal Audit and the business is an important component of the audit process. BBH’s Internal Audit team works closely with the management of the various business lines to understand business objectives and goals, confirm key risk areas, and identify any emerging issues. As an intern, you will assist in conducting internal system audits and risk assessments under guidance from IT Audit leadership.

What can you expect from an Internship with BBH?

  • 10-week program where you will be fully immersed in current business needs
  • Opportunities to have direct access with senior leadership across all business areas. Ongoing training and guidance in the Institutes of Internal Audit (IIA) framework and guiding principles that enable you to make an impact
  • Develop internal audit skills including multi-tasking and project management
  • A collaborative environment to learn about the business
  • Formal orientation
  • Feedback throughout the program to support your development and help you succeed
  • Organized social and volunteer events

What can you expect from an Internship with BBH’s IT Internal Audit group?

  • Gaining an understanding of the complete audit process from planning to reporting, while working with a dynamic team with deep internal audit knowledge and vast business backgrounds. The results of each audit are summarized in a report that contains an overall opinion on the adequacy and operating effectiveness of the system of internal controls and the quality of ongoing operations.
  • Developing a strong information technology foundation, with an ability to identify risks and controls related to various IT related areas [e.g., Databases, Operating Systems (Windows, Unix, Linux, Mainframe), Applications, and Cybersecurity).
  • Opportunities to meet with Senior Leadership within the organization to discuss and understand their perspectives on the risks of their department, and the controls, processes and activities that mitigate those risks.
  • Evaluating and documenting systemic risks and controls and executing audit tests

What BBH’s Internal Audit group looks for in an intern:

  • Currently a junior in college, entering senior year in Fall of 2025
  • Strong academic achievement as evidenced through a GPA of 3.3 or higher
  • Demonstrated leadership skills through academic and extracurricular activities
  • Effective communication skills, written and verbal
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Sound judgment and demonstrated ability to identify, escalate and resolve a problem
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands
  • Demonstrated passion for teamwork and success
  • PC proficiency, specifically in MS Office

While there are no guarantees of a job offer upon completion of an internship, BBH does view the internship program as a source of identifying future employees. As such, legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. BBH will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this program.
