Environmental Educator and Youth Counselor - Education Internship
Location: Northern California (onsite housing provided)
Position Type: Full-time, seasonal (May 13th-August 9th)
Compensation: $5,000 + food, housing, utilities, training, and perks!

This summer, take your skills as an Environmental Educator to the next level at Camp Augusta. As an Environmental Education Counselor, you’ll have the chance to teach fun and impactful environmental activities like beekeeping, creek stomping, outdoor kitchen herbalism, shelter building, and more—all while gaining 300+ hours of training in counseling, child development, and leadership.

This internship is an incredible opportunity for students majoring in environmental studies, education, child development, and related fields. It's a chance to apply your academic knowledge in a dynamic, real-world setting while developing your leadership and counseling skills.

What You’ll Do:
- Lead & Mentor: Facilitate daily wake-up and evening activities, ensuring campers build independence, confidence, and connection.
- Teach Outdoor Skills: Lead 3-4 activity blocks a day (e.g., beekeeping, shelter building, creek stomping) and craft creative, engaging lesson plans.
- Create & Perform: Use your creativity to develop themed activities and lead camp-wide evening programs—bring your playful energy to skits, songs, and character roles!
- Personalized Camper Support: Build strong relationships with your cabin group, helping them grow emotionally and socially throughout the summer.
- Collaborate & Learn: Work alongside a dedicated team of counselors to improve your teaching skills, problem-solving abilities, and group dynamics.
What We’re Looking For:
Minimum Requirements:
- At least 19 years of age by June 1st, 2025
- Availability from May 13th to August 9th, 2025
- Ability to commit 3-5 hours per week of pre-camp onboarding tasks
- Ability to show proof of a positive COVID test or booster since September 1, 2024
- One of the following:
- 1+ summer of camp experience
- 100+ hours of mentorship or youth work
- A related major or career intent to work with youth
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with youth (camp, mentoring, or education)
- Passion for the environment and sustainable living
- Excitement for learning and a GPA of 3.0+
- A variety of hobbies or life experiences you’re eager to share

- 300+ Hours of Experiential Training: Pre-arrival preparation and 3.5 weeks of on-site training, including:
- 75+ hours of experiential learning in psychology-based philosophies and approaches
- 45+ hours learning activities within our 150+ clinic offerings

- 9 Weeks of Summer Practicing: Being responsible for cabins of 5 campers at a time, and applying all the skills above to camp activities and discussions.
- A Skilled & Dedicated Scaffolder: With no more than a 1:8 ratio, this person emphasizes your growth and works with you to develop your skills working with kids
- Paid & Inclusive: This position offers a summer salary of $5000. Additional opportunities for pre-and post-season work also exist. All work includes freshly-prepared organic food, housing, and many more Perks and Benefits.
We can teach you the activities that most spark your excitement and creativity. And you can teach us if there are new activities that you would like to create here! Counselors are the heartbeat of camp. Most counselors spend a session or two outside of the cabin as well, contributing to programming or other areas of interest.
