Suicide Prevention Intern

Job description – suicide prevention, MSW intern position

*This is a MACRO level internship. * 

JFS Detroit’s Suicide Prevention team is looking for an intern.  The intern will become trained in various evidence-based methods of suicide prevention intervention, including ASIST, SafeTALK, CALM, and others. The intern will help to develop a 60-minute presentation about suicide prevention during their internship. They will partner with a local organization to help support their suicide prevention efforts and they will present their 60-minute presentation that they help to develop.  

The intern will work as a part of the suicide prevention team to learn about policy development, advocacy, outreach, education, and event coordination. The intern will help organizations to develop and improve their policies to screen and assess suicidality and how best to support people who affirm that they are having thoughts of suicide. This internship will include experience with relative comfort around asking about thoughts of suicide, assessing about suicide, assessing for safety of the environment, and the ability to collaboratively develop a safe plan. 

This intern will have the chance to participate in departmental meetings and present at them when appropriate.
