Internship in Government Auditing

This internship offers students the opportunity to gain real-world experience in governmental auditing and hands-on learning opportunities in ensuring accountability and transparency in government. In addition to the nuts and bolts of preparing an intern to do audit work, the program will also focus on public service in government, including an emphasis on free market principles, limited government, and the constitution. 

Interested students can apply for an internship with one of the following Offices:

  1. Office of State Government Audits and Technology (General), audits accounts and financial transactions of state agencies throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
     
  2. Office of State Government Audits and Technology (IT), examines IT systems, infrastructure, policies, and procedures of state and local agencies. 
     
  3. Office of Local Government Audits, audits fiscal courts, county sheriffs, county clerks, and other local offices.
  4. Office of Special Examinations, examines agencies or programs based on allegations of waste, fraud, or abuse.
  5. Quality Assurance, provides research, support, and training to all audit staff to ensure the APA is meeting auditing and reporting standards.

Interns will gain experience in performing audit tests, analyzing data, and providing support for more complex audit procedures. Interns may be involved in various assignments during the course of the internship.

To be eligible, students must be enrolled in an accredited Kentucky college or university, have completed their junior year, and are on track to graduate with either 20 semester hours or 30 quarter hours of accounting.
