MDHHS Laboratory Video Intern

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) will protect, preserve, and promote the health and safety of the people of Michigan, with particular attention to providing for the needs of vulnerable and underserved populations. MDHHS is one of the largest of the executive branch departments. MDHHS is responsible for health policy and management of the state's health, mental health, and substance use care systems. We are seeking college students for the Bureau of Laboratories.  Preference will be given to Video Production, Filmmaking, Communications, Digital Arts, or related field . This internship is an unpaid internship opportunity with 1 opening for the Fall 2022 Semester (September - January 2023).
 

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Preferred Skills / Qualifications: 
    -Video production skills including storyboarding/scripting, shooting, directing, and editing
    -General photography skills
    -Internet savvy
    -Familiar with Microsoft Office and ability to attend Teams meetings
    -Ability to work independently and in a group setting
    -Knowledge of or interest in scientific concepts and public health is helpful
    -Experience with youth and producing educational content for youth is helpful

 

Responsibilities/ Projects:
-Main responsibility is to assist science interns in production of video content for the Explore Lab Science website, including storyboarding/scripting, directing, shooting, and editing. Final product is reviewed by intern supervisor and MDHHS Communications for acceptability.
-May be asked to record offsite events for promotional materials.
-May be asked to assist with creating promotional materials to market Explore Lab Science program.
 
 
Materials:
-Intern will need to provide own video/photography equipment and editing software. Amateur equipment and software are acceptable.
-Access to Microsoft Teams as most planning meetings are virtual.
 

Timeline: 
-Goal is at least one completed video per semester.
Candidates must be self-starters that are comfortable presenting science material to students in kindergarten through twelfth grades at local science nights and in-class room demonstration days.

Our interns play an active role in development of material for the program and contributing to the program goals.

Time commitment: Approximately 5 - 10 hours a week

At the time of internship, you must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program to be considered for the State of Michigan student programs. You must attach proof of enrollment, official, or unofficial transcripts to your application.
