Environmental Health and Safety Intern

As an Environmental Health and Safety Intern in Richmond, IN, you will promote, implement, and coordinate safety and environmental tasks. Working with plant management team at all levels within the organization to support the four Johns Manville core values: People, Passion, Performance, and Protection.
We take a holistic approach to our internships by assigning meaningful projects, educating interns on JM's history and values, and providing additional development and volunteer opportunities.
At the completion of their summer internship, JM interns present their work to senior management at our corporate headquarters in Denver, Colorado. These leaders provide valuable feedback and insight for interns as they enter the workforce.

Your Day to Day:
- Supports and promotes safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company commitments, policies, compliance requirements, and facility “Safety Vision”.
- Understand and follow all safety and environmental programs and evaluate as necessary.
- Conduct Behavior Based Safety Observations.
- Conduct environmental and safety audits according to established schedules.
- Partner with shift supervisors to develop personal safety leadership model and improve their safety performance.
- Assist with completing environmental documents and records.
- Always use safe work practices, follows all safety rules and procedures, immediately reports any hazardous conditions, and fully participate in safety programs.
- Performs other duties as directed.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Pursuing a Bachelors Degree, Occupational, Health and Safety or Environmental
- Completed at least Sophomore year of undergraduate course work and enrolled in EHS major.
- Passionate about working safely.
- Excellent communication, training, and organizational skills.
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to travel up to 5%.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- GPA of at least 3.0 at an accredited college or university.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Basic understanding of production processes.
- Strategic and creative thinking
