Maintenance Modification Intern
Internship Title: Maintenance Modification Interns
Department: MME
Intern will report to: MME Senior Engineer
Overview:
The intern will collaborate with team members to provide engineering support on Maintenance and Modification projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with engineers to accomplish assigned tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
Projects the intern will work on:
- Maintenance Projects – Repair of freight cars through structural modifications and replacement of railcar components
- Modification Projects – Conversion of freight cars from one service to another.
- Drawings – Creation of supplemental documents for maintenance instructions and modifications.
- Data analytics – Review data related to maintenance on our railcars
- Labor Standards – Review repair process to identify discrete steps and estimate time required to complete the repair
Internship Goals:
- Gain an in-depth understanding of Rail Cars and rail car components
- Gain Auto-CAD and Solid Works experience
- Learn Technical Writing
- Gain data analytics experience
- Improve presentation skills
- Gain experience estimating labor costs
Qualifications:
- Major(s): Mechanical Engineering.
- Year in school: completed at least 1 year at an accredited college/university
- Specific course work: Statics, Strength of Materials, AutoCad, SolidWorks or other 3D modeling.
- Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Min GPA of 2.5
