Instrument and Controls Engineering Intern
Description
An Instrument & Controls (I&C) Engineering Intern in our will work collaboratively with our Energy Group teams to support a Burns & McDonnell Department, Global Practice or Regional Office. This position will provide support and assistance with requests in support of the business strategy. Responsibilities during the internship could include but are not limited to:
- Assist in preparing control systems (DCS and/or PLC), Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) and instrument specifications and procurement packages.
- Assist in designing control system logic and configuration, graphic interfaces, and Input/Output (I/O) lists.
- Assist in coordinating and managing all vendor I/O and instrument lists; coordinate I/O to determine partitioning of the control system hardware.
- Assist with the preparation of instrumentation design deliverables, including Instrument List, Instrument Construction Specifications, Instrument Installation Details, and Instrument Location Plans.
- Assist in developing specifications and site study for design of systems; provide assistance with piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) design including instrumentation and related mechanical design.
- Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Pursuit of Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program
- Currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post-secondary education program in a field related to the work done in the department.
- Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
- Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
- Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship, in the country where this position is located, for the duration of the internship.
