Spring 2025 Construction Project Management Intern

WHY INTERN WITH US  

A successful Intern will learn how to estimate projects and scopes of work, work directly with vendors to purchase material and equipment, and support the Field Foreman with customer needs through scheduling and site logistics management.  

  

Under the supervision of their Project Manager, an accomplished, seasoned Intern will have the chance to assist in managing projects from conception to construction. 

As an Intern, you will be part of the team from day one and given training and tasks that are important and impactful to our project success.  

   

WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA FOR A MCKENNEY’S INTERN  

Students must be a Junior or Senior enrolled at an accredited school majoring in Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent.  

   

RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Work alongside Project Managers to manage the mechanical and plumbing construction of projects from start to finish
  • Coordinate with vendors to schedule and procure materials and equipment purchases for the construction project
  • Regularly update and project cost expenditures for the projects’ budgets
  • Assist Project Managers and Field Foreman in planning to hit major schedule milestones with the field crews onsite
  • Regularly survey project sites for adherence to McKenney’s safety, quality, and productivity values
  • Assist in the preconstruction phase of projects by gathering quotes, performing take-offs, and helping assemble estimates
  • Assist in obtaining necessary permits for projects

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group, (including PMs, drafting, field staff, fabrication shops, etc.)
  • A genuine passion for building and construction
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
  • Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency, and meet challenging work goals
  • Excellent problem-solving ability
  • Attention to detail while completing multiple or repetitive tasks with a high sense of urgency
  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed while managing priorities

   

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORTS  

  • Work involves moderate exposure to elements, such as hot/cold temperatures, dirt, dust, and loud noises.
  • The work environment involves some exposure to construction-related hazards or physical risks, which require the following basic safety precautions.
  • Light physical effort. Requires handling average-weight objects up to 25 pounds and some standing or walking.
  • Work requires local travel to job sites and customer locations.
