Where you'll work
Most interns are based at our downtown Pittsburgh office (One Smithfield Street), South Side (Wharton Avenue), or North Side (River Avenue), but we also have locations throughout the county.

Internship Eligibility
Enrolled as a student at a college or university
Can work at least 20 hours week/semester. (Up to 29 hours/week)
Able to complete their internship at their designated office (currently, we do not offer hybrid or remote arrangements)

$15/hour
Area Agency on Aging (AAA)
Older Adult Support Bureau The Area Agency on Aging (AAA) is dedicated to supporting older adults in Allegheny County, helping them stay in their homes and live comfortably. As an intern in AAA’s Older Adult Support Bureau, you'll play a vital role in the Cost Share program, where you'll assist in collecting payments from OPTIONS consumers who receive valuable services.
The funds you help gather will directly support in-home services for older adults. This position is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in various areas, like customer service, accounting, banking, and analyzing collection reports. Plus, you’ll be working in a friendly office environment where you can make a real difference!
Information & Assistance Unit Commonly referred to as the “SeniorLine,” this service provides a primary access point for older adults seeking essential resources. The SeniorLine comprises a team of care managers who respond to inquiries via phone calls, emails, faxes, and in-person visits from community members in need of information and services.
Interns engaged in the SeniorLine will undertake the following responsibilities:
Conduct selected callbacks and referrals to assist callers.
Participate in training provided by professionals, including Protective Services Intake and Investigators, Ombudsmen, Assessors, and Options Care Managers, to gain insights into various units within the Area Agency on Aging.
Attend and contribute to Allegheny Link/ADRC outreach events to disseminate information regarding available services to the public.
Assist in the management and distribution of SeniorLine promotional materials, ensuring awareness of resources offered.
- Investigate underutilized resources and assist in updating information in agency publications.
- Support the mailing of informational materials and resources to SeniorLine callers, ensuring they receive necessary assistance.
- Engage in special projects as assigned, which may arise throughout the internship.
