Spring 2025 Prevention Social Work Intern

Job Overview

Prevention Social Work Intern will function in a primarily Macro Social Work role supporting the Prevention Screen-Out Pathway partnership with Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Internship will offer opportunities to explore how upstream interventions may be able to disrupt systemic issues leading to poor familial outcomes. Depending on timeline and competencies, this role may also have Micro Social Work interactions directly with referred families.

This internship will run from January 13th, 2025, through May 2nd, 2025, and will have a mandatory orientation on January 9th, 2025, from 9:00 am-4:00 pm at the Family Futures’ office. This internship can also be extended into multiple internship periods ending in either April 2025 or August 2025. If interested in a longer internship period, please reach out to the hiring manager.

Family Futures employees, volunteers, and interns serve as spokespersons and champions of Family Futures in the communities we serve. A position at Family Futures may entail the following: the use of a personal vehicle, lifting of boxes (roughly 25 lbs.), as well as attendance of community events outside of regularly scheduled hours. Prevention Social Work Intern duties and responsibilities

  • Gain knowledge of the general principles of nonprofit operations at Family Futures
  • Assist with tracking and documentation of flexible funds for Prevention Screen-Out Pathway
  • Input and analyze data in various program databases and spreadsheets
  • Work with the Prevention Screen-Out Pathway team to ensure prompt contacts and warm hand offs are made within the program and externally.
  • Work with the Prevention Screen-Out Pathway team for quality improvement and quality assurance around processes and procedures.
  • When applicable, use strength-based approaches to contacting parents
  • Potentially complete contacts to parents at designated frequencies
  • Input detailed notes on encounters with parents
  • Collaborate with other interns and/or staff to revise Social Determinants of Health screening using current best practices

 

Qualifications

  • Social work bachelor’s or graduate student
  • Willingness to learn new things and broaden personal comfort zone
  • Interest in working at a prevention-focused agency
  • Interest in community organizing, advocacy, public policy, child development, or violence prevention
  • Ability to multitask and effectively manage time independently
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Effective time management and organization
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups of people
  • Ability to work at least 15 hours per week
