New York Research and Mentoring for Postbaccalaureates (NY-RaMP) at Hunter College
Project Title: NY-RaMP Program for Diversifying the National Biology Workforce through New York Trans-disciplinary BioSciences.
NY-RaMP for Diversifying the National Biology Workforce through New York Trans-disciplinary BioSciences is a paid one-year research and scientific career development program. Recent college graduates experience laboratory immersion in biology and cell signaling by performing independent research with a team of active scientists in the Hunter College Belfer Research Alliance.
Chosen postbaccalaureate Scholars participate in a trans-disciplinary cell, molecular, and bioinformatics learning experience that begins with six weeks of “science boot camp” skill development at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory DNA Learning Center NYC and the Hunter College Belfer Research Laboratories.
Scholars are then matched with a mentoring team at the Hunter College Belfer Research Alliance in New York City.
The laboratory research is designed to address cell signaling questions that revolve around diverse areas of cell signaling in biology, including: molecular biology of diverse systems that connect to human health, microbiology, cell proliferation regulation, RNA biology, snail venoms, and computational genomics.
Key highlights: Read more about our program here.
- Each Scholar’s stipend for the year is $35,000
- NY-RaMP Scholars will be matched with experienced faculty to work on full time research projects in the fields of biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, bioinformatics, chemical biology, or nanotechnology.
- Each year ten NY-RaMP Scholars will be admitted to the program.
- The specific projects that each Scholar will work on depends on the research expertise of that laboratory. Much like the New York City transit system, the interconnected research programs of NY-RaMP blend basic science approaches by linking discrete scientific teams into collaborative groups that connect to form a community.
- Community and collaboration among NY-RaMP Scholar cohort, field trips, and professional development events
- Regular lab meetings, research seminars, and a yearly NY-RaMP Retreat
