Data Science Summer 2025 Internship
The Data Science team at Allianz Life sits within the Data & Analytics Center of Excellence and is responsible for developing machine learning, automation, NLP, generative AI and other data science solutions across the company. The team supports all areas of the business including operations, sales/distribution, marketing/growth, HR and compliance.
The 2025 Data Science Summer Internship position will provide an opportunity to tackle challenging and meaningful real world business problems using cutting edge data science techniques and solutions. You will be working directly with business stakeholders and technical teams on highly visible and highly impactful projects. A successful candidate will have a strong technical background in data science and statistics as well as strong communications skills and a willingness to work in a collaborative environment.
What you do:
- Design and build appropriate data science solutions and/or statistical analyses that will address important business needs
- Query and prepare relevant data for models and analysis, including performing exploratory data analysis and handling outliers
- Work closely with business stakeholders and data scientists to understand business problems and develop appropriate solution, including iterating through proof-of-concept solutions
- Implement high quality code and participate in regular code reviews with data scientists
- Balance working independently and collaborating with other team members on a variety of projects
- Identify new opportunities for analytical solutions
- Present results and recommendations to department and senior leadership
What you bring:
Minimum:
- Working toward a graduate degree in statistics, data science, math, computer science or a related quantitative field
- Proficiency working with dataframes in Python and/or R
- Solid understanding of basic statistical concepts (e.g. hypothesis testing) and machine learning techniques
- Experience working with databases, including relational databases using SQL
- Ability to summarize, explore, visualize, and manipulate large data sets
- Ability to deal with the ambiguity of early-stage scoping and evaluation of new opportunities and the flexibility to change direction as additional information becomes available
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Curiosity to learn, including an interest in learning about the life insurance and annuities industry
