Mechanical Engineering Intern Engines

Job Description:

We are looking for a motivated Mechanical Engineering Intern to join us for summer 2025.  The Mechanical Engineer Intern will be supporting RENK America engineers with the design and development of components and sub-systems at RENK America. The Mechanical Engineer Intern will work primarly on the AVDS Engine which is an air cooled, V-12, turbocharged, diesel engine currently rated up to 1200 hp. Projects range in scope from advanced research and development of future products to failure analysis and incremental improvements to existing products. Support may include development, design, analysis, drawing, hardware procurement, testing and failure analysis.  Other responsibilities may include design and development of components and sub-systems for transmissions and turret drive systems for military ground vehicles at RENK America.

Essential Functions:

  • Support development of system, sub-system, and component requirements in order to meet customer requirements.
  • Support development of concepts to meet requirements.
  • Perform mechanical, hydraulic, and thermal analysis to ensure new designs meet requirements.
  • Support the development of test plans to validate new designs.
  • Conduct test activities with lead engineer.
  • Conduct failure investigations with lead engineer.
  • Support preparation of engineering reports & presentations.

 

 

Requirements

 

Qualifications:

  • Working toward a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university (Jr. or Sr. status) with at least a 3.0 GPA.
  • Ability to perform mechanical stress and structural engineering calculations.
  • Ability to perform thermal fluids and heat transfer calculations.
  • Ability to manage and organize multiple project tasks to meet established deadlines.
  • Must be capable of obtaining a DOD security clearance.
  • Good written and verbal communications.
  • Must be willing to travel (up to 10%).
  • Must be able to move freely within the manufacturing and lab environment with reasonable accommodation.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Demonstrated technical ability through a high GPA (3.0 minimum)
  • Engine and engine sub-system design and test experience, especially fuel, lubrication, and cooling systems.
  • Experience designing and developing mechanical and/or hydro-mechanical systems.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Creo / Pro-E experience.
  • Power BI & Share Point experience.
  • Ability to create macros (code) to pull and analyze test data / information from unique sources.
