The Delivery Ops team is responsible for Cloud cost optimization as part of the FinOps practice. FinOps goes far beyond purchasing savings plans and pre-reserve discounts. It requires continuous monitoring and action. While cost analysis tools, such as CloudZero, or AWS Trusted Advisor, provide great recommendations, it is up to the teams to implement best practices and policies that would continuously reduce cloud waste. The Delivery Ops team has identified a list of code optimization policies that can be implemented through automated scripts and frameworks, such as Python and AWS SDK for Python. Implementation of these optimizations will be a positive long-term contribution towards AWS best practices and help roll out FinOps and cloud optimization.
- Automate routine AWS resource management tasks using Python scripts.
- Identify opportunities to increase operational efficiency in AWS Cloud by analyzing AWS cost analysis reports and by reviewing footprints of cloud resources.
- Write well tested, readable code using Python that is capable of handling AWS resource cleanup tasks and regular configuration management.
- Contribute to implementation of additional governance and compliance policies for AWS.
- Author documentation related to the cost optimizations standards and essential knowledge that can be shared with Engineering Teams.
- Demonstrate completed tasks and completed project to team members.
Major Initiatives
- Increase Operational Efficiency for CloudOps Team through automation and optimizations.
