JOB SUMMARY

This is a Temporary position that has an expected period of employment lasting 3-6 months.

 

The co-op/intern will be responsible for co-managing the 3D Printing program and service area within the 3D Experience Center at the Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital in Center Valley, Pennsylvania. Working with the Director of Good Shepherd Creates and the 3D Printing Clinical Specialist, the co-op will be a stakeholder in ensuring the success of the Good Shepherd 3D printing program and will serve as a thought leader for the use of additive manufacturing within rehabilitative care. They will be exposed to engineering services and FDM production in a medical environment where patient-specific solutions are 3D printed.

 

Additional responsibilities include: Assisting the department with engineering support, design validation and verification for 3D printed devices, testing and improving upon product development workflows, co-leading make-a-thon and educational events, and ensuring stakeholder engagement with the program through the use of Design Thinking to develop and build resources and increase utilization of 3D printing.

 

Optional projects include: building a use case for 3D scanning, improving the coding for Cura for use with the Epsilon W50, and creating a filament recycling program, amongst others. Daily tasks may include co-managing 3D print requests and assisting with 3D printer maintenance and upgrades, and others as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

CONDUCTS DESIGN VALIDATION AND VERIFICATION

Develops testing procedures for devices

Develops algorithms to automate testing workflows

Trains company employees in new processes

TESTS AND IMPROVES UPON PRODUCT WORKFLOWS

Co-manages incoming requests with 3D printing Clinical Specialist, from design request through fabrication and delivery

Assists with 3D Printer maintenance and applicable upgrades

Troubleshoots and resolves production issues by applying engineering principles and problem-solving skills

Evaluates and improves printer performance

Makes post-processing recommendations

DRIVES STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

Interviews and brainstorms with clinicians and staff to improve knowledge of how and when to engage with 3D printing

Brings engineering perspective to identify 3D printing needs within the network

Develops and builds clinician-friendly resources to increase utilization of 3D Printing as a tool in rehab

Conducts community facing presentations related to makers skills & 3D Printing

Education

High school diploma, GED or equivalent required. Pursuit of higher education preferred.

Work Experience

Prior work in healthcare and/or role utilizing 3D printing preferred
