Robert F. Kennedy (RFK) Human Rights Communication department seeks a Social Media Fellow for an immersive writing and marketing cross-platform content creation opportunity. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, self-starter with an eye for detail, strong organizational skills, as well as a knack for making complex subjects interesting and relatable. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career or recent graduate that is interested in developing a career within the marketing communications space. About the Communications Team:
The Communications Team is dedicated to increasing global awareness for the work of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights and attracting a variety of new audiences to engage and connect with the organization as a priority for its future success. The more people know and support the great work we do, the larger the impact we can make as we serve our mission.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Social Media Manager in developing and executing dynamic, cross-channel content strategies, including the production of infographics, short-form video content, data visualizations, and presentation materials for RFK Human Rights and our President’s, Kerry Kennedy, social media platforms.
- Draft compelling scripts and produce short-form video content from pitch to wrap, ensuring key messages are effectively communicated within the platform’s time constraints. Record, speak, and be a part of video content.
- Edit raw footage, adding text overlays, transitions, and music to create engaging, high-quality videos optimized for various social media platforms with minimal supervision.
- Design visually compelling infographics that distill complex information into clear, easily digestible visuals, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines and messaging.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, emerging technologies, and social media best practices to ensure content remains relevant, innovative, and engaging.
- Monitor trending topics and conversations across social platforms, integrating timely and relevant insights into content creation to drive audience engagement and brand awareness.
- Support the Social Media Manager at on-site RFKHR conferences and events by: creating daily recap emails summarizing key themes, impactful speaker quotes, photos, event updates for attendees, and capturing visual and written content for use on RFKHR.org and in future marketing materials.
A successful candidate must have the following skills and experiences:
- At least one year of hands-on work/internship experience in digital marketing, communications, graphic design (with a focus on social media design) and/or journalism.
- Experience and ability to create compelling written and visual content for digital platforms and email newsletters, aimed at promoting campaigns, events, and advocacy initiatives.
- Comfort and ability to appear on camera for video/social content.
- Proficiency in graphic design and communication tools such as or similar to: Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok).
- Proficiency in crafting visually engaging infographics, short-form videos, data visualizations, and presentation materials that effectively communicate complex ideas in an accessible, impactful way.
- Advanced skills in short-form videography, including scriptwriting and editing, with a keen eye for turning raw footage into engaging content.
- Strong writing, editing, research, and fact checking skills;
- A keen awareness of current events and pressing issues related to RFKHR’s mission, human rights, with a passion for staying informed on global and social matters.
- The ability to translate complex program-specific language into clear, concise, and persuasive content that resonates with diverse audiences.
- Posses high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information;
- A creative mindset, open to innovation, and a strong work ethic, with a willingness to share ideas and contribute to team goals.
- Strong attention to detail and able to scope out errors, including a willingness to own and fix mistakes;
- Exceptional time management, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at once;
- Strong sense of teamwork that builds positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, and a willingness to help others;
- A commitment to inclusivity, with enthusiasm for working with people from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
Preferred but not required qualifications:
- Journalism experience such as working with a college/local newspaper, website or blog;
- Experience with CRM platforms such as Salesforce is a plus but not required.
- Familiarity with digital systems such as Airtable, HootSuite, and Mailchimp is a plus but not required.
Availability and Compensation:
- This is a one-year full-time fellowship (37.5 hours per week) starting as early as January 2025.
- The annual base salary for this role is $60,000 plus full-time employee benefits.
