2025 Families USA Spring Internship

2025 Spring FAMILIES USA INTERNSHIP

 

Families USA is looking for dynamic, enthusiastic 2025 Spring interns who are eager to learn more about our work across our four pillars: health care value, health equity, coverage and consumer experience - to help build a stronger health care system for all. This is an excellent opportunity to use your skills to improve health policy, racial and ethnic health inequities, and learn more on how an advocacy organization works to improve people’s lives. This internship will take place in our Washington, DC office on a hybrid schedule (3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely).

Since 1981, Families USA Foundation has been a leading national voice for health care consumers. Through our long-standing relationships with consumer leaders, advocates, and partner organizations across all 50 states and the District of Columbia, we have remained steadfast in our mission – Dedicated to achieving high-quality, affordable healthcare and improved health for all. We advance our mission through public policy analysis, advocacy, and collaboration with partners to promote an equitable, patient community-centered health system.

 

INTERN WORK

Interns gain insights and techniques on research, writing, advocacy, organizational and leadership skills through their assignments and through active mentorship. Our interns will have the opportunity to work with various departments: Communications, Development, Federal Relations, Health Policy, and Strategic Partnerships.

 

Interns will generally:

  • Assist with research, collecting data, preparing draft memos, fact sheets, publications, presentations, and other
  • Track and support work with state-based and national
  • Database administration and help maintain the contacts for our various
  • Provide support on a variety of other projects on various

 

YOUR BACKGROUND

Excellent analytical and writing skills with a strong attention to detail. Strong data collection and research skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and be able to multi-task. Must have a basic knowledge of database administration and other content management systems. Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Currently enrolled in or recently completed graduate or undergraduate studies.

 

OUR WORK ENVIRONMENT

Interns are paid DC minimum wage, or they can receive academic credit for their work and normally work at least 20 hours per week. Interns at Families USA are considered and treated as integral members of the staff who have substantive roles to play in achieving the best health and health care for everyone in the country. Families USA considers its internship program an important opportunity to develop the next generation of health justice leaders. Internships are structured to facilitate professional development, with interns working with their supervisor and a mentor on developing and achieving goals, including taking advantage of the learning opportunities in our nation’s capital.
