Summary/Objective:
The Academy Oral History Projects Department invites undergraduate, and community college film students with a strong interest in moving image archive studies or library science students with a focus on audiovisual archives to apply with a large preservation and access initiative focused on oral history interviews with notable filmmakers. The internship will focus on preparing audiovisual interviews that have been deposited at the Academy Film Archive for future access by scholars, researchers, curators, and the general public.
Supervised by the Sr. Archivist of Oral History Projects, the intern will focus on collections research and processing, data entry and inventorying, and generating reports regarding the content and scope of archival collections. The intern will also conduct research focused on the lives and careers of the filmmakers documented in the collections and provide input on the development of an Oral History Digital Archive project.
This is a limited-term internship position beginning in June 2025 through August 2025. The hourly wage for this role is $17.28.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Assist the Sr. Archivist with inventorying and processing collections.
- Assist the Sr. Archivist with the creation of catalog records for the public website.
- Write interview summaries, abstracts and bios, and collection profiles.
- Gather data and reporting statistics about archival collections and content.
- Organize interview metadata in our Airtable database.
Required Competencies:
- Community college, trade school, and university undergraduate students from the class of 2025 or 2026 in good academic standing.
- Minimum of 2.8 GPA.
- Knowledge of and interest in international film history.
- Data entry and file management.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Interest in and/or experience with cataloging and data entry.
- Familiarity with spreadsheets including Excel and Google Docs.
- Ability to learn new software.
- Problem-solving, multitasking, and project management skills.

This internship is part of the Academy’s Gold Rising program, an 8-week internship enhancement program that incorporates learning opportunities including an intensive two-day orientation, weekly panels, exclusive networking events, workshops, screenings, and mentorship opportunities with Academy members.
