Stormwater Program Intern

Distinguishing Features of the Class

Performs field investigations/inspections of stormwater infrastructure and completes reporting/analysis of stormwater data.

120-Day assignment working up to 40 hours weekly depending on available work. Typical employment duration is 4 consecutive months.

 

Acceptable Experience and Training

  • Completion of one (1) year in an Environmental Science, Engineering or related program with course work in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Geographic Information Systems, or Environmental Engineering;
  • Or any other combination of experience and education that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work;
  • Preferred experience with Microsoft Excel and ArcGIS.

Required Special Qualifications

  • Possession of a valid Iowa driver's license.

Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)

  • Performs stormwater sampling and field analysis of stormwater outfalls at creeks and open water bodies;
  • Completes construction runoff control inspections;
  • Investigates illicit discharges;
  • Updates GIS and stormwater permit data;
  • Assists with stormwater permit compliance;
  • Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification
