About the Program

UPMC’s Laboratory Student Intern program allows you to put what you have learned during school into practice by working side-by-side with clinical laboratory professionals.  This is a full-time, temporary 10-week paid opportunity during the Summer of 2025.

 During the internship, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Build a strong foundation for your future in a clinical hospital laboratory.
  • Build your confidence as a future clinical laboratory professional while developing essential skills and gaining valuable work experience through hands-on training.
  • Work in one hospital-based clinical lab for the summer.
  • Experience state-of-the-art, high-volume, fast-paced labs that exist to serve the busy hospital setting.
  • Work up to 40 hours/week.  Network with UPMC Lab Leadership.
  • Make an impact on patient care and Life Changing Medicine!

Program Recruitment Expectations:

  • Applications Open Beginning December 9th. 
  • Program Dates: Early June – Early August
  • Expected graduation date of Fall 2025, Spring 2026 or Summer 2026 preferred.
  • Full-time availability required with minimal absence throughout the program.

Qualifications - Internal

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. 
  • Current enrollment in an Associate or Bachelor of Science program at an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science.
  • Must have completed at least two semesters of classes in the associate or bachelor's degree program.

 

Licensure/Certifications

  • Additional clearances may be required based on location and specialty
    • Specific instructions will be provided during the onboarding process
